Much as I would like to make the correct moral and ethical decision, which I believe would be to sacrifice the one for the many, I would likely base my decision on which one would likely land me in prison or even on death row for murder.

Doing anything "active" to kill the fat man, even to save many others, is just begging to take a trip through being booked, jailed and prosecuted for murder, because that's what lawyers and judges do. If you're real lucky and pay enough money, you'd might eventually get out and get to write a book about it and have it turned into a move. But probably you'd just end up in the slammer for the rest of your life, or get put down like a rabid dog.

That said, realistically, a lot of people would probably die as I watched in horror, later claiming I was too stunned and in shock to react at all.

We could of course up the ante again, by making those 15 people my closest family and friends. In that case, I'd have to kill the fat man and take my chances with the Justice system.

Buckster - you've managed to wrap up every single issue we've discussed in one post: selfishness, emotional reaction, morality and circumstance.

Let it be said clearly and loudly, "Buckster is good".

So the Pope, a very fat man and two hobos walk into a bar...
The Pope says "My friends are hungry and thirsty, give them wine and wafers, and some Holy Water for me".
The Fat man looks at the bartender and says " I am REALLY hungry and thirsty, better make mine a triple, and if you don't have Holy Water, take some regular water and boil the Hell out of it".
The 2 Hobos say eagerly, "We're hungry and thirsty, we'll take whatever the man in the Skullcap is giving us and the fat man's leftovers, but can we take it to go in a brown paper bag?"

and then an errant trolley with Dao's body plastered to the front rams through the storefront and kills everyone. Meanwhile buckster is just looking at the switch thinking "I REALLY should have pulled that..." and Tight Knot is just snapping away ... sinisterly.

You push the Pope over the railing to save the hobo's, but you tell the media the Pope jumped and sacrificed himself to save them.
Actually, if the Pope was true to his office, you wouldn't have to push him and the story to the media would be the gospel truth.

I'm not Catholic so I don't know this. Can't the Pope fly?

Why is it the sinister one is the only one who comes out of this doing good? Just imagine how much money I can make from all those photos sold to The Enquirer?

Yes, On a spiritual high ;)

Why all people concern about what i did wrong and by the way, i just joined this forum yesterday so not aware of about your rules and laws, hope i wont hang till death bcoz of this :P
And your main concern should be help me out in how should i do same photo effect by myself simple is that.

Uhm. So, abhi, what do ou think, does the pope go over the bridge or not?

If our definitions of right and and wrong can be changed so easily today, we're all in trouble

^^ There is a trolly barreling down a hill uncontrolled towered a section of track under repair. You know with absolute certainty that if the trolly continued, it would kill everyone aboard. Before you is a switch on the tracks which you know, again with certainty, if activated would save all 15 people (including three children) inside the trolly, but would certainly collide and kill one man crossing the tracks. You know this will kill the man with the same level of certainty as you knew that by doing nothing would kill all the passengers.

Do you pull the switch?

It depends.. are you the one man? ;)

unpopular > Well i didnt read all that stuff , and either not interested. Is this photoforum or wt? bwhahaha

So, now that you have asked the hard questions, what WOULD YOU do?

Save the Hobos. I've never been a Pope. :)

---

The point is what is right and wrong is often based on circumstances. Nearly everyone would agree to pull the switch, but very few would agree to push the man. In the end, you're still responsible for one or many persons' death, regardless who that person is. If killing an innocent person is wrong, why is it OK to kill a person in one scenario but not the other?

There are variations to the problem addressing the hooligan/pope scenario as well. The fact that I have been homeless would influence my choice, whereas, say a devout Catholic, might value the Pope's life before the hooligans.

so as the Anarchist you claim to be.. what would be the PROPER anarchistic path here?

Ah, yes..... still preaching to us.

LOL. The Pope DEFINITELY GOES.

Seriously, I think i am hearing the nuns from elementary school clawing their way out of their graves. Guys, keep your rulers safely locked away!

KmH, the issue is with treating the Internet as a simple broadcast medium. It's much more than that, and as a result the same rules that apply to simple broadcast media cannot be applied successfully to the Internet. Doing so would capitalize the Internet, and reduce it to just another means for us to fill our faces passively. I'm willing to throw my work out to the world. I my rights on Flickr don't allow anyone to make any money off my pictures, but I know full well that I can't really stop someone if they really want to. I'd rather contribute to the greater good, to help inspire and to be a part of the collaboration than to greedily hold on to my rights and contribute to reduce the Internet to a passive wasteland.

/2 cents.

(sorry to bypass your chat room above)

I hear what saying, and agree for the most part. It is your choice to contribute to the greater good. It's my choice to contribute or not. Bottom line it is the choice of the photographer not for the OP to make that choice for the photographer.
