How to get involved?

I was wondering how many people shoot local bands? I would like to try and find some local bands and try giving it a shot (no pun intended) over christmas break.

Do bands care if you take pictures? I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you didn't have the flash on.

They shouldn't care. They'd probably appreciate it. I wouldn't try using your kit lenses, but your 50mm should be good for the job. Does it AF on your D3100? If it doesn't I'd use live view to focus at the concerts, or if it does AF but it's too dark for it to be effective.

My D3100 doesn't have an internal motor but the 50mm has the motor in it so it does auto focus. I was thinking of using that if I could find a band over break. I wasn't sure how good it would be due to I couldn't zoom to get closer or further away.
