A moron question, but I swear the whole of Google didnt have the answer...

It's a vg 10, for a canon A2E or similar SLR. I'm selling it, so I want to get all the dust and everything off and out of it. Except I cant figure out how to get it open! :blushing:

The most promising thing I can find is a slot where you can turn a coin and remove a little round disk thing... but that seems to be all that moves. Once the disk thing is off, nothing happens. But everywhere else is small screws, a tripod socket, and what seems to be a shutter button.

I am not sure cause i dont have the same one, but it looks like it is childproof :lmao:

You can laugh. :) But I figure(d?) a battery grip must have a battery in it... How else would it extend battery life? To get said battery out, it must open.

Or, if that's not how they work you could enlighten me instead of laughing! :-P

Seriously. I'm slow.

Thanks gsgary, but I did have that figured out. I have it disconnected from the body, but is there anything else I can open? Or am I just really confused? It does have a space for a battery in there somewhere, right?

Are you sure that "little round disk thing" isn't the battery? Or at least "a" battery?

See if the disk thing has a "+" on one side and/or a "-" on the other. If so, and it's a little more than half-an-inch in diameter, chance are it's a battery.

It's a grip not a battery grip for shooting vertical, the battery lasts for ages

rlemert: Nope, I'm positive it's not a round battery. I'm not quite that dumb.

gsgary: Well now it makes a lot more sense. :) Thank you.

Your thread is not exactly clear on what you are asking. In the old days, the only battery in a camera, was for the light meter, and it didn't use a lot of juice.

The attachments for the camers, was a MOTOR DRIVE (really fast, usually had a handle that went up by the shutter button) or Automatic film advance WINDER (not so fast and just attached to the bottom of the camera only) and in this case, a VERTICAL GRIP, hence the VG-10 desigantion.
I don not beleive the unit was powered at all, i found this in wikipedia......

The camera was powered by a 6 volt lithium 2CR5 battery, or, with the optional Canon BP-5 Battery Pack, could be powered by D batteries attached to the belt of the user. The Canon VG-10 Vertical Grip added a shutter release, control wheel, AE Lock button and Focus Point Selection button to the bottom of the camera for portrait orientation use, but did not add AA batteries as a power source.

hope this helps...

If this is the grip you're talking about, it doesn't take a battery... it just adds vertical shooting.

The battery is built-in and is not a replaceable item.

If it craps out you have to get an entire new grip, not just put another battery in.
