How to spend $1800?????

you can buy the 50D but next year something new will come out and you will want that instead! so forget about the body! go for one of the two lenses! play with both and see which one you like better!!! i would personally go with the 70-200 becuase it is an amazing lens especially the IS one! you can invest in 1.7 teleconverter later and that way you have a very versitile system!!!! thats my two cents!

So my equipment list is: Canon XT, 50mmf1.4, 100mmf2.8 macro, kit 18-55, 75-300mm cheapo, and 430exII. I mostly take family portraits, macro shots , landscapes and, animal shots. So basically all sorts of different shots.

1. 50D and 17-40 f4 L
2. 70-200 is usm f2.8L
3. 100-400 f4.5-5.6L

Thanks!

with cheapies for your zooms and good primes i personally would do either a 24-70 f/2.8 or 70-200 f/2.8 to start building the zoom lenses.

could also consider a 7D and rent the lenses as you need them, the down side being availability. around here a 70-200 rents for $30 a weekend but a 5D is $125, so if you go the rental route you would save money by buying the body as opposed to lenses.
