This is my first shot at hummingbirds....its getting kinda late in the day (5:30 pm) but I am trying to catch a good shot of this hummingbird. I would love advice on this. I am shooting a Nikon D7000 with a 100-300mm lens.

Very nice set.

Those are really nice first shots!

Advice - maybe get some similar shots without the feeder. Try shooting a little wider and then cropping it out.

Good first-try. I agree with @JacaRanda, try w/o the feeder. Hummingbirds are pretty easy to shoot/predict, once you get used to their "habits". They generally will feed, back up, feed, back up etc. You shoot when they're away from the feeder. I set up my tripod and camera and just wait... Buy the Picture "Anna's Hummingbird to the Right"

Have fun!

Just to add, waiting until it's later in the day is a great idea. The link I posted was towards the later afternoon. The lighting is better IMO.

They are very nice! Maybe tone down on the sharpness a touch? The dots are very noticeable and distracting. Just a thought.

Ok so its because its too sharp?....and not because of the noise? I had to shoot at a high iso because of the low light....but I also did sharpen a lot too. Thanks for your advice.

OK..I need to try it with a tripod...I am hand holding .....while sitting inside my car next to the feeder (using it as a wildlife blind) lol....this is a new feeder and the birds are skiddish.

Thanks for the advice

You don't need a blind for Hummingbirds. They are actually pretty curious. Many times they buzz around my head.

I use a tripod because the camera/lens gets heavy after awhile. :)

I tried to crop out the feeder but I think it screwed up the pic by cropping so much.
