We're in Waldorf, MD - about 40 minutes south of downtown Washington, DC.We are on relatively high ground and the electrical is buried so flooding and electrical outages in the immediate area are rare. Sandy is still about 200 miles off shore so it's not too bad, yet; raining with a few gusts of wind.

The youngest son is home from college in Wilmington, DE and doesn't have classes until Wednesday so we'll take him back tomorrow afternoon. The oldest son lives about 30 minutes away and will be down tomorrow and hand out at the firehouse (he started at the local Volunteer F/EMS Dept. a few month ago.)

Hoping the folks that have already been through the mess (southeast) and those that are still waiting (northeast, mid-atlantic) stay safe.

snowbear: I have a brother and sister-in-law in DC, they live basically in the Capitol Hill area and work there as well. Haven't heard from them, so I'm hoping they're safe and sound, hanging out with friends somewhere. Any local news there about how that area is faring?

I'm 20 miles north of Washington DC in Montgomery County, MD. Lots of rain and a bit of wind, but as of 2:30PM today it's not "historical" or "epic" by any means.

I am worried about our beach towns, however, along the Eastern shore. What would we do without Seacrets bar and grill?

WHOA! Just had HUGE gust of wind. Maybe this thing will pick up a bit...

I'm in the Poconos of PA, they're saying we may get "saved" because the eye of the hurricane is what is headed towards us, but we're still looking at upwards of 70 mph winds. Enjoying my electricity while I still have it. Our wires are underground, but that doesn't mean anything in my area.

I really want to go outside when the wind is really blowing and get a picture of the trees, there have been times where they just look like they're going to come right down.

Pretty quiet here. I'm significantly above the river and the creeks, so won't get any flooding. The power doesn't usually go out around here, but I guess we'll see. So far, I'm not even seeing what the news is reporting. There are supposed to be 35 mph winds in Philly but the trees here are not moving that much. A few hours will tell, from what I have seen. I hope everyone in the low areas is following advice and getting to a safe place.

I haven't heard anything specific. I'm just listening to the local Sheriff and Fire/EMS on the web cast. Most of the coverage has been for the Atlantic beaches. The Feds announced, last night, that they'd close up shop for non-essental personnel. I'll toss on the news and see what I can find out for you. I know there are some power outages in the region and some localized flooding. Something you might try from there is news8.net.
