Got a phone call from a colleague who spoke to one of the survivors. Such a shame. This is leaving a pit in my stomach. He is a respected and skilled mariner. Sometimes mother nature grabs ya by the balls and refuses to let go.

A very, very close friend of my son's (whom I wouldn't mind having as a daughter-in-law one day) knew the girl crew member of the Bounty who died, and knew *of* the Captain. She (my son's friend) sailed on the Nina over the past couple of years; she seriously considered signing on with the Bounty a few months ago, but opted to stand on land for a while. She too, is feeling the loss deeply tonight of fallen "comrades."

Sharon: Have you heard from your brother & sister-in-law? I looked at the power companies web site a while back and saw that there were some spotty outages in that area.

This storm was mild compared to the last one. On Saturday people were freaking out at Walmart. Banks were closed yesterday but liquor stores were open. Tells you something about civilized society.
