I hear ya... I'm just poor. Well, not truly, but I'm "frugal". Check out my signature... lots of AF glass to save money over AF-S. Works for me!!!

Me too on the AF-D glass

I have noticed that the OEM grips aren't perfect either.
Sometimes when they are on my bodies for a long time the light starts blinking as the grip shifts slightly - I've had to take it off and put if back on from time to time.

I wish their grips slid on with a click lock rather than screwed on. It would be alot more solid.

True that! My D90 Nikon grip back in the days... rubber was peeling off, and I was mad because I had paid a lot for it.
After that, I started buying used Nikon grips for I didn't shell out too much on grips. When I went to the D800, I was bummed to learn how costly they were. Used ones were over $300.00. Adorama/Flashpoint Magnesium Alloy grip was on sale for $82.00 shipped, and I jumped. It's real nice....

I've just upgraded to a D7100 and have an 3rd party grip. While it looks at works amazing, no issues at all, I'm a little concerned with the slight wiggle it has where it mounts to the body. Can anyone tell if this is the case for the OEM. As I like cost savings I don't like cheap if its not as good or better then OEM.

I've just upgraded to a D7100 and have an 3rd party grip. While it looks at works amazing, no issues at all, I'm a little concerned with the slight wiggle it has where it mounts to the body. I have an OEM grip on my D7100 and it wiggles very slightly. When I first got it I was tempted to get out the Dremel and custom fit it. Now, I don't even notice it.

Interesting. I actually ordered a Smatree the other night for my d800 before seeing this thread. I had a generic version of the flashpoint. nice grip, mag alloy and worked great until the AA battery tray shorted out and killed my D800. Circuit flex board and CPU repair cost $170. Still no way am I spending $400 on the nikon version....

Has nothing to do with easier or quicker for me. My hands are getting a little shakier each year. When hand-held shooting, a grip, with its added weight, makes a BIG difference in camera shake/movement for me. I notice the better steadiness immediately!
