What's new

I am back. HELLO! Bokeh and a GNAT. Full blown 1:1 maxed out at 100mm

Since everybody else is posting little critters, I might as well join in...

I was right in the middle of changing lenses when this guy got frisky. Luckily Asia was able to catch a shot.

too bad they are looking the wrong way! :-)

At the right place at the right time................and unprepared?

What's wrong with you? lol:lol:

Merry Christmas to you and yours this Christmas 2011.
Hey and that goes for all the rest of you here too.

Albeit a little soft due to camera shake (i forgot about using the self timer in place of a cable release - which I don't own), a dandelion seed is about the size of a gnat, perhaps a bit smaller.

And a snowflake certainly is smaller than a gnat - and a serious pain to photograph.

merry xmas everyone! :D

This!
Oh man.
Ok dude you and Gipson..............and unpopular are starting to make me look really bad here.
Seriously......that is a badass shot on a bee.
Mine sucked in comparison. lol

This image was worth the bump.

I like bees too! :)

Looks like Gipson has been around the block a few times.
I might have to start taking this kid serious.

Perfect exposure.

You made me laugh! I haven't been called a kid in quite a few years! :)

It's on Gipson!
Hey, did you know that sharpness is overrated?
Which is what inspired THIS.

I know I know...............the wasp is looking the wrong way.
But the exposure.........hmmm
Ur gonna have to step it up , kid.

Soft shot!

All "looking the wrong way" jokes aside......Every photo you guys have posted is amazing. Truly an inspiration. Thanks for sharing both your photos and your experience.

I have got a few dragons in flight but none anywhere as good as that shot Charlie.

Thanks Ron! I made a challenge of it earlier this summer.... and my 70-200 VRII makes it happen! And then a crop!
Panning with a high F stop are we? That's still got to be hard as hell. They disappear at 200mm like really fast if you lose them on the pan.
If you lose sight of him, you never get him back in the viewfinder. I'm guessing ISO 800 - 1600 on a clear day, at f10-f18?

hahahaha... no.... actually:

F9 100 ISO 1/125 with fill flash 200mm subject was maybe 4 to 6 feet away. I have about a dozen different shots like this, mostly done one day last summer. I used spot focus.

See, if you used a real camera instead of a Pentax, you wouldn't have to wait.
