I cleaned my D800's sensor

For anyone who's scared to: Pshht. Easy. I had bought a package of 4 sensor swabs. I ended up using all 4. After the 1st one, I had removed most of the dust/spots, but noticed a streak. The 3rd one appeared to have some foreign lint on it, so i tossed it rather than putting it into the camera. The 4th finished the job. No streaks, no dust, no dots.

If you used the pre-moistened swabs stop at Durys downtown and pick up a box of dry swabs and a bottle of Eclipse. They are right inside the door on the right. Lots less expensive than the pre-moistened swabs. I carry a couple of pre-moistened ones in my camera bag but use the others when I'm home.

You're right though. It is brain-dead easy as long as you watch what you're doing.

One of the biggest "secrets" is to use just two, teensie, tiny drops of cleaning fluid on the swab...not even one big "drop"...the smallest amount of fluid seems to be the secret. For me, at least. More fluid seems to equate to more of a streak issue than less fluid.

Dury's kind of creeps me out sometimes. I'm not there that often, but when I am, I've had the sense that they're purposely avoiding talking to me. but yea you're right. those are way cheaper. thanks!

I have to agree, it is a strange place sometimes. Everyone there is actually very nice and friendly, and usually quite helpful. It does sometimes seem that I'm a leper though. They are the only store left around here though so I do try to throw them some business from time to time.

I agree, but they're prices are just not in the least bit competitive. I just can't see them ever having a lens or flash, etc...big equipment... that would be cheaper than amazon or BH/Adorama. I know it sucks for them, but its the truth. HOWEVER.... there is that awesome hot dog joint just down the road that makes me my chicago dogs.

No, they are not competetive! They sell at list price plus we have to pay sales tax on everything. I wanted to buy my D90 there a couple of years ago but it was about $300 higher than at B&H and they wouldn't come down any. I bought a tripod there last spring but I needed it "Right Now!" and they did cut me a little slack on the price. I think I wound up paying about $50 more than B&H but I really did need it right then.

Filters run about the same, as do straps. Bought both, at Dury's. I didn't look at larger ticket items, but everyone was super friendly and didn't make me feel like a leper.
