What's new

I just bought another old nikon lens..

The shot of this young man wearing red, round, rose-tinted glasses was made in the summer of 2017 using the Nikon D610 on its first outing, with the 180 mm AF-D lens. It was lightly processed in Lightroom and given a very slight vintage color look.

Here is a portrait shot of Jennifer, made in the year 2001 with the 180 AFD Nikkor and a Cokin fog filter. This was shot with the 2.7 megapixel Nikon D1 and was my very first ever digital portrait session .

Another gorgeous lady portrait... just totally perfection..oh and the first photo that finally loaded for me on my old pc is really really awesome,,the vivid coloring is just perfect.. I will check out that lens as well as this one Nikon F AFd ZOOM Nikkor 35-80mm f4-5.6D lens in box ex++++ condition that I just saw on ebay for about $100. I just read Ken Rockwell review. The newer 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6 G cheapskate zoom lens is a smaller, simpler six element design. I'd get the G version for most more recent cameras, or get this older AF-D version, with aperture ring, if you plan to use it on older film cameras.

There are not that many people who have actually used the lens you want to get, such as the 70-210... it was described as quote heavy, but I would disagree with that characterization.

I meant compared to the 70-300 afp, which is the lens I thought photolady owns. I believe it's about 100g heavier, shorter focal length, and doesn't even have the VR system. Since she has a zoom covered, my biggest point was something else might be more fun.

Posting from my phone, so never complete thoughts.

You were close/ I have the tamron 18-400 zoom...my idea was to switch over eventually to Nikon lenses,,,the all in one type zooms from tamron are fine... but I want to improve sharpness and own some lenses that are actually paired with my camera... I thought I would start with some cheap older lenses until I had some experience and above all found one or two that I really enjoyed..so I am in the market for any type as long as it is Nikon and is compatible with my camera..thank you

Gotcha, for some reason I thought you got the new 70-300 AF-P when you got it. So it seemed really redundant.

The 100e series is pretty darn nice, especially my copy but its an odd focal length that I tend to forget about. As far a 50mm, the af-d 1.8 is a super lens as is the Afs version. I have that 35 1.4 ai-s lens and its a pain the butt but if you nail it, its amazing, but I have never figured out how to master it. The 35 1.8d is much easier to use.

Glad to hear that your 28-80 G series has already showed up. I am amazed at my 28-80, which is the earlier D series. It is amazing to me that such an inexpensive lens can do so well. Apparently Nikon made about 700,000 copies of my version, and around two million copies of your G Series. I think that they knew something when they pretty much kept this low price but high- performance thing going.

I am relatively sure that you will like this little lens. It may only weigh a few ounces, but it punches above its weight by far.

I think that a kit lens for one of the consumer AF film cameras. I think it will be pretty good.

I meant to say 35mm f2d in an earlier post
