I don't bother with c&c anymore. occasionally if I'm drunk or bored I might...but otherwise I just lurk. Too much PC'ness. *shrugs* oh well.

You guys who want harsh C&C and who want to give it do know that we operate relaxed* rules in the subscribers section right?

*we even relax rules on hot-topic discussions to an extent - mostly on a merit system - the merit being that because you pay to enter we expect a respectable discussion between members to take place.

I miss TPF Raw killed a lot of time laughing, eating a lot of popcorn and passing the bowl....le sigh.

Anarchy!!!!

I'm not on the bandwagon per se of those wanting more harsh c&c, I am on the bandwagon of thinking it's too PC around here, so much that I have to simply not give my opinion, not because I'm a dick, which I admit I can be, but because people these days are too pussified to handle truth. Even if delivered tactfully.

So my comments are not directed at TPF as a whole so much as society as a whole. I find the same thing locally here, even in person. So it's not really a TPF thing. It's a "people" thing.

Just recently I gave a noob some advice and opinions and he replied with a quick one line statement of stupidity writing me off, even though I gave sound advice. Small example of the idiocy that is running rampant.

I received some harsh crit, undeserved...and deserved. I learn from it all. If I don't agree...I say thanks anyway, never get offended. Afterall, I really don't care what strangers think. lol. But folks like me are a dying breed it seems.

People need to remember opinions are not "right' or "wrong", they are simply opinions. You don't have to agree or disagree, but you do have to respect that a person may feel that way, for whatever reason, and they have a right to express it openly. Or should have that right anyway.

Pally two things to keep in mind:

1) I'd like to remind people that mods don't just act upon a report and do whatever the person reporting wants us to. We read the report and the views of the user and the thread itself. Often times we do get reports where a user is reporting critique on their photo and the critique is delivered in a respectable manner and we don't do anything (or drop in to reinforce things).

2) What I DO tend to see happen more though is when someones critique is challenged things seem to escalate into a fight instead of a debate. Either an established members critique is dismissed by a new member and then suddenly there is a fight as people rally around to "beat down" on the new person for rejecting the critique.
This of course creates a fight situation which reflects badly on everyone and normally leaves the person who gave the critique feeling like they got hit by everyone - whilst the person who got the critique feels like the whole forum hate them (ergo no one actually wins and everyone loses).

I think that there has to be an honest effort to:
1) Be prepared to defend and outline ones reasoning with critique - in a polite and civil manner even if the person taking the critique hasn't responded as such

2) Accept that no matter how many years and how better your eye is than theirs - no one can be forced to accept critique. Yes it might be "for their own good" but this is an international forum for discussion not an army drill training centre

3) Let matters drop if the person getting the critique is simply not getting it or clearly has alternative views on things. Maybe you're right and they are wrong or maybe its all opinion - whatever happens respect their choice to reject and just move along. Maybe next time they might see your reasoning more; or maybe they will get it later; or when someone else rephrases it; or they never will, but they'll be happy with their performance (and lets face it you can't "Tell" someone how to enjoy a hobby, they enjoy it in their own way).

BLow C&C , i do what i want , to a degree that i like , i'm not a professional ....this is a hobby , and i dont need to sell and please the masses , do you C&C a painter or designer ....no you just dont like his/her work , end of story . Same with photo's i have found , so many need to be liked to feal like there doing it right , do what looks good to you and look at others to help inspire.

I was talking about people as a whole, not just on here, my example was that of a local experience...not a TPF one. Thought I made that clear, maybe not..I dunno. Never did I even address the mods and their actions. I have not had issue with any of your choices personally, in fact I have gone to you when I had issue in past because I like your level headedness mixed with logic. But that's enough ass kissing. I would hate to be a mod here...so I don't envy you're position at all.

I accept this place for what it is, and what it has become. It's still a good place to be, which is why I chose to be here. Bottom line is people can chose to be a part of it, or not. Up to them really.

I prefer the middle finger approach. But that's back to me being a dick and so forth. lol. but I like to think I'm fun and I really am a nice person, but don't tell anyone.
