HI YA'ALL!
I'm doing my part, lol!
Honestly, I'm not trying to though. I think people just take this whole "internet" stuff way too seriously. People think you're out to get them when you're just trying to help.
I think in the last 2 months, there have probably been at least three people that said they were leaving as a direct result of things I have said. I can't be the only one. I think that maybe because of the over-reaction of many of the new members, people may tend to 'play it safe' and not say anything that could be seen to be offensive. So, everything gets watered down in an attempt to be "PC".
Sometimes I read the comments and wonder why I haven't been banned, lol. In 6 years, I don't think I have ever been contacted by a mod and told to relax or anything like that. I'm not trying to be an ass or anything, but people just seem to interpret it that way. If I am doing something wrong, nobody in an official capacity has ever said anything about it to me...
Just want to say that I was here a couple years ago and I would post my pictures and I would get BRUTAL C&Cs from people here. Now, while I always felt like $hit after I would get the C&C that I requested... I learned and grew from it!
This tamer version of TPF, I feel, isn't pushing people to strive for excellence. I've seen a lot of pats on the back for work that is well below par, and, personally, if I had received that type of feedback with the work I was posting two years ago, I'm not sure that I would have grown so much in the short amount of time that I did.
I'm all for encouraging and being nice, but sometimes brutal honesty is what is needed for someone to grow in their craft.
Thanks for all the nice comments peeps!! haha

Consider yourself lucky! I seem to have collected a small coterie of pantywastes that follow me around reporting my posts... lol!
Go **** yourself.
Better?
HI YA'ALL!
^^^^ How do you determine which posts should be portrait and which should be landscape?
I think a good rule of thumb is to treat people here the same way you would treat them if you were face to face. Now some will immediately claim they would act the same - but I seriously doubt some of the condescending comments I've seen on here would be said if speaking in person. As a new photographer, I come here specifically to learn, to get better and to see what other photographers are doing. If I post something for C&C I very much value what a seasoned pro or a fellow noob would offer in terms of constructive criticism - key word being constructive.
Be honest, no doubt - otherwise the criticism is not valuable. But if you sincerely offer criticism with the hope that it helps the poster, why wrap it in sarcastic, rude language? Most people do not respond to that sort of attitude.
I for one probably would say more-or-less the same thing. That's not the problem though. The problem is that we're all seeing a text only reply and we have no visual or auditory clues to help us see the intent of the poster. Everyone assumes the worst.
