Here for the long weekend and just love this place.
Staying at my daughter's apt in Murray Hill and eating at every off-beat place I can locate - had Shanghai specialties in Chinatown last night and northern Thai specialties the night before, lunches at halal carts on the street and breakfast at local cafes.

Today is the marathon, 43000 runners and a million plus spectators.
Tonight is Little India for supper.

Man, I love this place.

Downsides are costs - (rent - one bedrooms start at $2800), but since I can stay for free any weekend, it's all good for me.

As a bonus, my granddaughter, who is doing her last semester in Shanghai, Skyped that she has been offered a job for the video production company in Paris where she worked while going to college. So my wife and I get a good reason to go to Paris to see her every year.

Now if I can just find an interesting place for lunch and at least one of my pictures from this weekend turns out to be a keeper, it will be a totally successful weekend.

Glad to hear you're having a great time!! I used to love visiting NYC. My sister in-law lives in Queens and we would stay w/ her in her one bedroom apartment. I remember talking about how much her rent was and it was almost double what my mortgage was for a 4 bedroom house w/ an acre of land. lol INSANE!! That's the cost of living in the fast lane, I guess.:er: I have to admit it is pretty cool having everything w/ in a couple minutes walk! <sigh> I need to get back up there. =)

Hey Lew! Happy Birthday! Spending time in one of the world's most interesting cities is a nice way to celebrate. So much to experience! It can be a brutally hard place to live in (according to several relatives who live and work in NY), but it ain't bad when visiting, and using a local's place to stay.

Just came back from seeing the wheelchair, men's, women's finishers.
I was at the turn where they come onto Central Park South about .5 miles from the finish. It was wonderful to see how really elite runners move, no wasted motion, incredibly fast and smooth. The men's winner was off world record pace but still curse record had >1 minute lead over #2.
It was very cold and windy and, after standing there for two hours, I quit after the first 20 men had gone by.

The crowd was very international and friendly.
Lots of pictures that I promised to send to people from Taiwan.

Now for some warm soup for lunch.

Not only saw marathon but, as arranged, met Mishele for a tryst at 3 am in the subway.
She was very, very friendly, altho not the physical type I expected, said I could call her anything I wanted to but I was a bit shocked when she asked for money up front.
Rather startling all around.

TBH, I would have paid full charge if you had shaved your ......... well, anything, but starting with that unfortunate line on your upper lip and those three long hairs from that mole.

Just back from dinner with my son and family.
There is a semi-tradition of embarrassing me on my birthday at whatever restaurant we are at.
Tonight it was a Japanese restaurant where they banged a gong, everyone in the restaurant sang happy birthday and I got a dish of ice cream with a candle.
I hope it cost him extra.
