I need a new slr set up

would the 18-55 mm lens be decent for sports? And if I had to choose between the xti and the 30d, i should take the 30d?

Depends on the typical distance you'll be from subjects playing the sport. Billiards or ping pong... maybe.. just maybe.... Football, soccer, or polo... the 18-55 is going to be very short.

When I shot polo, the lens that matter the most was a zoom that covered 100-400mm.
