i used lightroom maybe seems over exposed.

It is indeed light-painting; You might want to consider a background with fewer distractions and a faster shutter-speed.

Light painting, indeed. Aren't they fun? I've just started playing around with them lately, too. Tips -- wear black, keep moving. If you want a person in the photo, fire a flash at some point during the exposure.

You can do "star art" by using the stars in the same manner.

I agree that background with less distractions would be better. Low ISO and small aperture (f16 maybe).

I've done this with the grandchildren. We used colored light sticks and did it outside on a moonless night with no other visible light. All you can see is the colored light paths the kids draw. It's lots of fun and you can tell who's pics are who's by using different colors.

thank you for the responses. i will take all things into account and try it out next time; faster shutter speed, small apperture, lower iso, less distracting background, and different colors. =)

How do you get it so that the person holding the light isn't in the picture?
I've never done this before, but I want to try it.

Lo-o-o-o-o-o-ong shutter speeds. OP's post was 11 seconds. Subject needs to keep moving.

OK sure. How do you keep moving if you're trying to create a pattern? Especially a repeating, recognizable pattern like a heart?

Move your feet as you create half the heart. Then relocate to create the other half, moving your feet. Think "ballet".

When we did it, the kids stand still and just draw with the light stick. The ISO at 800 and a very long shutter speed. We live in a very rural area so when there's no moon it's really dark here. I dressed them in dark clothes and stand them about 6 feet from the camera, which on a tripod. It's lots of fun to see what you get.
