Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Hi I am thinking of venturing into wedding photography, most of my photographic skills are commercial and lanscapes. Any Ideas on how to get started building a portfolio to get into the wedding business?

-Find a wedding photographer with whom you can assist/2nd shoot

-Hire a model (or models) and rent/borrow some wedding attire and go to it.

Just man up, trust in your skills and photograph a wedding. Whats the worst that can happen?

getting sued.

...well i guess if the couple is real crazy, you might be murdered for losing all the photos when your cf card craps out on you, or you drop it in a mud puddle... J/S'in

Just charge very little and indicate you are a wedding amateur.

I would suggest letting them higher a professional wedding photographer and you go to the wedding and see what you can get on your own. just don't be flashing when the hired photographer is taking photos.

remember. You cannon re-do a wedding. these are people memories that are in your hands. (doesn't matter how much you charge if you lose photos or they come out like crap) the bride will still want to kill you.

This aaaaaand this.

Yeah - I've seen some incredible wedding photos of non-brides. Just models wearing a wedding dress. Gives you way more freedom and time to set up than with an actual bride, where you'll be rushing through their whole wedding day trying to work as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Thanks for all your help guys, appreciate it.

What are some ways to get exposure for wedding photogs to pick you up as a 2nd shooter? Many want experienced shooters as second shooters so it seems to be pretty hard convincing them you aren't some amateur off the street (this seems to be the case mainly in LA)

I agree. Also don't do start taking on weddings on your own until your ready and the photos are worth it. You can't retake them. When I got married my photographer got sick last minute and I had a day to find someone else. The women i got "accidentally" deleted our photos, I was devastated. I would have been equally disappointed paying for professional images that didn't turn out professional.

This was my approach - I charged $300 for my first wedding and was very up-front about the fact that it was my first wedding so the couple didn't have huge expectations. I did my homework and fortunately the couple were very pleased with the results.
