You could always get a Mamiya 645 AFD or AFDII body first, those aren't very expensive, usually $1000 with the 80mm 2.8. The benefit being you can rent a digital back and play with MF a bit and see if it's actually worth the switch. IMO MF is limited to mostly studio use since the CCD sensors are terrible over 400 ISO.
