Im not going to be able to go back to one control wheel am I?

After playing with the 5DMkii for a coupe days I picked up my d3100 and almost immediately tried to use the non-existent front command wheel. I'd used cameras with them before, but for some reason it's really killing me now to have to go back to pressing a function button for both controls.

you've got command wheel fever now! grab a used D90, they are getting cheap now. I cant wait till i can budget in a D7000 to replace our D90, we hear a LOT of good things about that body.

Well...MAYBE you could modify your approach to shooting? What I mean is this: most experienced shooters rely on Aperture priority automatic for their "run-n-gun" shooting. Programmed auto is also useful for FAST, easy, creative bracketing. SHutter priority auto is seldom of much use, except when a specific shutter speed is THE MOST CRITICAL exposure parameter, which is seldom. In Aperture priority auto, which myself and millions of other people use, the key is to pick the best, or desired, f/stop for each scene.So...you set the f/stop where you NEED it to be, and then that exposure parameter is "set", and then the camera adjusts the shutter speed as needed.

Or...just buy one of the 2 million Nikon D90 bodies on the used market!

Ha, I've actually had a d7000 in my cart on various sites a few times. I'm probably waiting for the d600 to come out now. I keep going back and forth between full frame and crop. It's absurd how many times I've changed my mind, haha.

I'm also intrigued by the possibility of going canon now so I could just loan out glass from work. But I'll probably stick to Nikon.

The upcoming D600 FF body's leaked pictures and leaked specifications look MIGHTY APPEALING, yes. I'm pretty confident that it will have extremely good sensor performance...Nikon is kicking Canon's butt on that aspect in the newer cameras. The D600 has the potential to be an awesome camera, and at a VERY fair price. I have heard the price point might be $1,599. For full-frame, that will beat the pants off of Canon's $3,500 5D Mark III. And, the D600 is "supposed to be" announced in August or September...so...right now is a good time to wait just a bit...Nikon has refreshed the pro end with the D4...has introduced a new game-changer in the D800 models...and the HIGH-END ENTHUSIAST CHAMP model to replace the D90...seems poised to be the D600.

A very,very careful reading of Nikon's recent promotional materials by Nikon guru Thom Hogan seems to suggest to him that the D600 is going to be the camera where Nikon moves the High-end Enthusiast segment up to full-frame. The NEW Nikkor lenses also point very,very strongly to the same thing. Hell, the D3200 going to 24 megapixels is indication of a sea change at Nikon. The bitingly-crisp new 85mm 1/8 AF-S G...the new aspherical design 50mm f/1.8 AF-S G...the NEW (last month) low-cost 24-85 Nikkor zoom...the new 28mm f/1.8 AF-S G...these new lenses are aimed at full-frame "serious enthusiast" price points AND have been designed for higher MTF...

One does NOT have to be a genius to be aware of the HUGE percentage of gear-obsessed enthusiasts who have been waiting and waiting to move up to full frame. With Canon having just taken a huge "dump" on enthusiasts by pricing the 5D-III at $3,500, and Nikon releasing an ostensibly superior camera pricved $500 below the 5D-III price, well...imagine how well a sub-$2000 Nikon FF would fare sales-wise.
