Is it worth it to get a camera with this option? for stuff like landscape photography and situations where a tripod is not an option? something like the pentax K10D?

It is a great feature and it will most likely help you get shaprer shots in many situations. It does not take the place of a tripod though...for landscape photography, a tripod is still a better option. It also won't take the place of fast lenses (to freeze subject motion, for example).

It certainly can be a perk to have IS in the camera body (like the K10D) as opposed to having it in the lens, like Canon & Nikon do. Many will say that the in-lens versions from Canon & Nikon are technically better, but those lenses cost quite a bit more.

I just assume have VR in the lens. You can see it working and adjust for it accordingly, thus giving even more control.

IS for Canon and Nikon were designed so that they work with film, too. The K10D IS was designed as a digital IS solution from the ground up. Not sure that makes it better or worse, just a comment.

I like VR. I only have it one lens but it really does give you an extra 2 stops of hand hold-ability.

I've never used in lens IS, but from what I have read as far as stops gained compared to what I have experienced from my K10D, the lenses give you and extra stop to a stop and a half.

It's Nikons lens based image stabilization which they call Vibration Reduction. VR denotes lenses with this feature.

I've been using A530 without, and now S3 with IS, and it's great feature! Especialy in movie mode!
