In search of an ID

I posted this pic of one of our clematis on a gardening forum to secure an identification.

One respondent said that the only way to ID with accuracy was to examine the stamens, as growing conditions can vary colour & size. So I took this pic for her:

In case anyone is interested, it is identified as "The President".

It certainly is The President. They seem to be very hardy as they have survived a few harsh winters. I have several different Clematis' growing in the garden, some just flower for a short time but The President flowers throughout the Spring and Summer.

Harsh winter in the UK? You gotabe kidding.

We have three, one not blooming yet & this is the other, a "Niobe":

Hey, we had snow earlier this year that's harsh enough for me!

The Niobe is one I haven't come across before - it is beautiful - the petals resemble velvet. I shall have to look out for that one. Is it hardy enough to survive a UK winter do you think?

Well Tish, it has survived -30C here.

Pretty. I bought clematis to plant, but I'm new at gardening so I'm not sure what I got. I don't think they're cold hardy. I should find some of these for next year.

I like your second shot, very nice stamens. That sounds dirty.

I expect any Clematis will be hardy in the NE USA.
