In your opinion, what's better: G16 or X20 ?

I want to get a good compact. Canon Powershot G16 and Fujifilm Fuji X20 are my options. A lot of good is said on the net for both of them, now I would like to hear your opinions, the real ones. I need your help to make a choice (and end my stress ). Thank you for any input.

Cant comment on the Fuji but I own the G15 and I love it!!!
Fast lens, good low light performance, 2 control wheels, full control and options like a big DSLR.
Now G16 is an upgraded G15 so its even better.

The fujis are an absolute pleasure to use. I shoot fuji now I'd switched from Canon so now I guess I'm biased but just the feel of the camera, how its laid out, IQ it can produce, just an all around joy to use.

For the same money as the Canon, you really should look at the Fuji X-A1. If you've got legacy MF lenses, adapters will put them on the X-A1. Besides, the kit zoom isn't half bad. Far better low light capability. For a bit more, you can get the Fuji X-M1 with the X-Trans sensor. But seriously, why settle for a p&s when you can get the flexibility of interchangeable lenses?

That is a problem. Both cameras are a close match and the differences are hidden deep underneath the obvious in special capabilities. Like G16 Star preset or Star trial preset or Fuji settings for simulation of Fuji colour films look. Many of this abilities I would never use so for me it boils down really to handling and things like guarantee and service. (Which in Toronto should be no problem for both I guess.)

I was thinking for the moment about that systems, but what I really want and need is a good compact small enough to carry everywhere without a bag. I have already dslr when comes to system with interchangeable glass, but I find it too big. I just want relatively good digital capabilities for family memories while shooting film for mainly my own fun.

I think, one of the differences to consider is what kind of zoom you prefer - manual or "power". Having to choose a second camera I personally would prefer manual zoom that I got used to using a DSRL.

Good point, I know, what you mean. For that I have to see and touch the camera, to see, if manual zoom on X20 is comfortable enough. I have thick fingers.

I can't speak for the G16 - but I do own the X20 Silver and love the retro feel (I bought a leather cover for it to complete the look). Go for the silver for that Fauxica look!

I like this retro look to. Finger crossed, price is dropping, so far by $40. :thumbup:
