White Background-FAIL - a set on Flickr

Those are my pictures.. I had 3 lights shining on my old shoes.. I used an old Vinyl poster back side.. I had 1 light shining down from ceiling, one from each side.. some of my pictures have the settings I shot at.. I don't think one came close to what I wanted to get.. any thoughts/ideas would help a lot.. I had 100w bulb in each clamp lighting..

What were you looking to get?

From what I can see, underexposed and visible lack of sharpness at points on the shoe (specifically the toe)

I highly doubt you will get pictures like that with plain light bulbs.

Seems as if your camera might have been in AUTO white balance mode, and it yo-yo'd the WB all over the map.

What color bulbs did you use?

I bet you $200 I can get that picture pure white with a 40 watt light bulb with my camera. actually, depends on what you're using I could probably get it with that with a tripod.

OK so I got a little bored, but also lazy so shot it JPEG. Couldn't find the other 40 watt light bulb table lamp so used a 20 watt table I had laying around.

Poster board + 20 watt light bulb = WIN!!!!!

Nikon D3100 and Nikkor 18-105mm AF-S 1.3.5-5.6G ED lens.. Sorry I'm not a pro, just started and trying to learn

412 i'm just saying its possible. even with your setup. I mentioned tripod because i didn't know if you had a full frame or not or something that can capture w/out going to high on the ISO. Which is why you would need a tripod and use low shutter speed.

As for my shots, I used f/4 at ISO 3200 1/80

I do have a tripod, but I didn't try using it. I think I will pick up some postervoard and shoot again.. I had a vinyl sign that would be hanging outside for a "now hiring" or advertisement sign, may not be the best..

no actually vinyl is the best type background you can use for white. its all about the exposure.
