While you give him the film if he's the experimenting type here's a suggestion for him if he likes the IR result. The Rollei 400S film achieves a look similar to Kodak HIE by over exposing slightly, however that may not be ideal for the contrast he wants. The other still mass produced IR film is Efke IR820. It comes in an "Aura" version which doesn't have an anti-halation layer on the back of the film. This causes high contrast images to literally glow slightly. Tweed Heads IR | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

And if he REALLY is into experimenting next time he buys Rollei 400S he should try washing the film in a dark room and then putting it in the camera. It's anti-halation layer is water soluble.
