Input on this photo

So I really LOVE the composition of this shot and the way the light is behind him. I tried to tone it down a lot cause it was a bit over exposed. As you can see in the second attachment (before/after). Are the whites still too bright? I tried my best to save it while keeping somewhat natural color to his skin. I love this shot but something still bugs me so I'm turning to you folks for some input. I'd love some different opinions.

Hi Breezy, if it was mine then I`d try to tone down the whites even more as it does look quite bright still.

One simple way to get another take on this is to allow your photos to be edited. You can change that in your personal profile settings.

The setting is for any photos that you post.

I tried, but could not improve it. If you want somebody else to try, you might consider making the Raw file available (you'll have to host it somewhere else, though, as this site does not support Raw files.)

BTW: we usually specify "Adobe RGB" color space when posting online.

I appreciate the attempt. I'll think about that, not currently at home to access the RAW.

I like the pose, and the angle. It feels like I'm stranding right in front of him playing.

I think there are a few things throwing me off, and please keep in mind that this is just my opinion:

1. The brightness of the background doesn't really fit well with the music I am hearing in my head. I'm thinking rock music, but the brightness makes me think corporate event.
2. The brightness of the background compared to the darkness of the subject makes me think this would do well as a B&W image.
3. The background is pretty cluttered, and there's a water bottle at his feet, not to mention the stand. All of these draw my eye away from him. I'd probably do a bit of cropping and healing to get rid of the water bottle and stand. More cloning to get rid of some of the lights and other things (like all those black blobs) on the ceiling.
   
4. Given the subject matter, I think it needs to be a little harsher with more contrast.

I'm in a B&W phase (and I've been adding frames to all my images, for some reason), and I'm probably going to kill this image because I'm editing on my phone, but I see it as something like this:

I thought about B&W as well. In another final version of it I did retouch out the mic stand and water bottle. You're definitely right about the style music cause they are a rock band. Haha
