Can anybody suggest a few things around the house that I could photograph to increase my composition? I can't think of anything apart from a bottle of wine with a glass but that wont last long as i plan to drink it

other glasses, jars of stuff, fruit, books...Anything you can set up a still like with that's got some colour and texture going on. Get things set up in good light with an uncluttered background and away you go.

Its the uncluttered background that i worry about. I need to buy a backing card me thinks.

A bedsheet works just fine, drape it over a couple of chairs.

Shame you can't shoot during the day, I've got beautiful, low, autumnal sunlight streaming into my living room right now.

Why don't you reach for books about paintings, especially Flemish painters of 17-18 century. They were masters of still (domestic) life. Or google for it:

Thanks KmH, will give those a read when i get i home tonight and i love the 2nd assignment. Pictures to follow
