Intervalometer and Aperture mode

Why is it when I set my camera to aperture priority and use an intervalometer it takes several photos at a time?

For example, I have both my delay and interval set to 5 seconds. Yet when I start taking photos it shoots between 8 and 11 images at a time. Using a manual lens, f/3 and 21mm, trying to take a time lapse of it going from a bright day to clouds (eventually rain).

While I know I can use the multiple images, I am just not sure why the camera is taking them.

Just noticed it had stopped, the display showed "card is full" with almost 3,500 images in under 45 minutes. So I definitely need to figure out what I am doing wrong as not much changes in that time.

I googled the polaroid, and it looks similar or identical to mine.

Have you double-checked to manual to make sure it is set to just one shutter acuation per cycle?

I couldn´t find a manual for the remote, and I am not a Nikon shooter, so here are just a few guesses:

• Make sure that there are no settings in camera that can trigger multiple imags (like bracketing, etc.)
• Turn off self timer, or delayed remote in camera if turned on, only use single frame
  
• I don´t know what the delay is you are describing (maybe the above), but consider to turn it off
• If your shooting mode is continuous, try to set it to single frame, maybe the remote is sending a longer signal that triggers more images when set to continuous

The shooting mode is set to continuous, set it to single frame and am planning to try again. I do suspect that this may be the root of the issue, but I will also check on the other settings listed although I am fairly confident none of those are on.

Turn off that Continuous mode and go into Single mode.
It's taking a shot as quickly and as often as it can. Which due to buffer/memory card constraints seems to be averaging 1 shot every 1.3 seconds .. nonstop.

Tried again this morning, and yep, looks like continuous mode was the culprit. Worked fine. Now to download all the images and see how it turned out. Was trying to capture a sunrise, but I suspect it was a little too cloudy and grey.
