is a 28-90mm worth it?

I currently have the Canon Rebel XS kit with the 18-55mm lens. A friend suggested the 28-90mm lens to me. Doesn't look too expensive. Is it worth it to get it? Or any suggestions for a better lens?


I don't really use my camera for anything specific yet. Just been photographing things around the house as you can see from my flickr in my signature. I fairly new to this so I'm just trying to get the basics and maybe take a few classes to get a better understanding of everything.

It should be the old kit lens given with film SLR. So, the same basic quality of yours if yours is not IS (and also same range, on full frame). No need to get it, because it extends your range of just something.

Unless you have a specific need for it, there's no reason to buy it, just because it's available. Wait until you realize you NEED something that you're current setup can't give you, then start shopping.
