also is it just me or is the majority of this site just noobies now (no offense everyone has to learn somewhere) just 90% of the pics posted now are snapshots..

whats the deal?

i havent been around a while so spare me if im wrong but what happen to spiffy, lafoto, chiller, jaszek, cory, etc

It isn't you. What you see is a combination of both - ppl leaving and newbees posting snapshots thinking that their work is top notch

i HIGHLY doubt that a thing as simple as that drew away so many GOOD photographers yet attracted a bunch of point n shoot kings.

:lmao: P&S kings. i love it! and you would be suprised how many people did because of that. Go look at that thread. When I posted my disapproval on it, I got like 20 PMs from people saying that they're leaving to go someplace else and blablabla..

but the noobs that you ARE referring to, are pissing ME off because they're chasing the good C&C away from people like me who dont think they were born with a camera up their @$$ and need good HONEST critique to get better. >_<

Actually it was the most recent deathnail and it did
A bit of backstory:

1) A few members requested a nude subsection of the site and the admin agreed to create it

2) the nude section was infact a big success and was turning out to be quite a well running part of the site

3) One morning the admin remove access to the section and announce that NSFW posts will no longer be allowed on TPF

4) That was all the admin did - there was no consultation nor expansion of the reasons to the membership nor attempt to get a working workaround put in place. The reason we have deduced is that one of the advertisers disputed having nudes on the site and the admin listened

Essentially quite a lot of members have finally had enough of an administration (note administration not moderators) who are essentially just using the site for ad income and putting little to no effort in for the membership even to go as far as to not even expand upon their offical reasoning for changes to the site.
There is a lot more from the site growing in size and attracting more new members (mostly a result of good google listings, good titling and being a large forum - as well as teh wave of new amateurs that digital has brought) thus diluting the overall content (well in the view of some who can't ignor the beginners areas).

Long story short. The site was sold to new owners who know (and care) nothing about photography, and are only interested in making money from the site. As a result, they don't care about the quality as long as people (good or bad) show up.

Basically, people bought the domain name and cash the checks that are brought in. If you want a serious photography site, you have to go somewhere else now.

I too am a newb lol and came in right on the tail end of the mass exodus so I have no idea other than what people have said. I see tonnes of new people joining getting pissed off when they dont get a pat on the head for being a good little photographer but I also see some talented people here with excellent insight and some people that are just starting out like me that arent total morons but seem like cool peeps. Yes Erose that would be you lol. So hopefully I never become one of the P&S kings/queens that annoys you. Haha well I might but then Im a big girl with her big girl panties on and I can take it. Forums generally go through this once and awhile and I am hoping that in time it will come back to something of a serious site. Meanwhile I am content to wait.
