Is there a 50mm 1.8 version of a flash for the Canon XS (meaning under $100 and works better than what the camera's already got)?

P.S. I know it would be no substitute for a good quality flash, just wondering if it exists through Canon or fully compatible third party.

Yongnuo flashes.

You could probably get a used 270EX around $100. Theres also Nissin ND466C, Sunpack PZ-4000, Sunpack PF30X, Sunpack RD2000, Vivitar DF-383, Vivitar DF-183, and Vivitar DF-293.

Some of those are well under $100 but do not have swivel heads, others are in the $100-$150 mark that have swivel heads and TTL.

That looks about right ;)

I have a YN465 that works in TTL (on camera). If you may spend something more go 468, which has also automatic zoom (on or off camera; 467 only on, although there is a trick to convince it). In addition to that, invest in a cheap wireless trigger: using them off-camera will give you more flexibility. If only off camera, you may spend even less and go for 460, manual only.

enzodm & altitude604 ... did you get yours through ebay or amazon? Do you recall how long the shipping takes?

The 468 sounds nice and still reasonable price just over $100 - I assume it works with the Canon XS/1000D?

Got mine on eBay. Shipping I can't quite recall but it wasn't too long. I also live in the middle-of-nowhere so I'm not exactly the best benchmark for shipping times. ;)

The only beef I had was that the bounce card built into the head is fragile and busted after only a couple extensions. It still works but I just use a small wedge of folded paper to hold it in the extended position. The rest is good though.

I got mine from a reseller on Amazon UK. I'm in EU, and there I found a price half way between China directly from Yongnuo (there is a shop on Ebay) and regular prices on EU Ebay shops. One week or so. Mine had no problems.
