Is there a maximum size of CF card that the D30 (not 30D!) can accept? 2 or 4 GB?

I don't think so, but I'm not an expert.

The issue I see with larger capacity cards is the potential loss. I can shoot ~200 RAW images on a 4GB card. If I were to be using a 16GB card that is potentially 800 images that could be lost. I'd rather take a minute or two to swap out cards.

It seems 2GB is the limit for the D30...

Read that though - you might be able to use 4GB cards if you format them on the computer (instead of in camera - read the link for details).

Older d-slr's were often limited to 2 gig maximum addressing...Nikon and Fuji as well as older Canons...that was pretty common back in the day...
