What's new

Is there any use for old strobe systems?

That depends it would help to know more about them, name, specs etc. The old Speedotron Black/Brown Lines lifespan is measured in decades. Extremely accurate on output, and still have value.

It’s a 2401A with 2-104 heads and 2-102 heads. It hasn’t been used in 10 years and the stands, umbrellas and soft boxes have disappeared.

That's a Speedotron Blackline 2400 ws power supply, the 104 & 102 heads are both rated up 2400ws, with a 250 watt modeling lamp. Don't remember the differences. Used for the set I've seen them go on Ebay for $1300-$1700. They have a reputation for accurate consistency color/output. The only downside is they are cable connected which can create trip hazards on a dark set.

They are still in business by the way, manufactured in the US, a high end brand, just the power supply new is about $3500.

The 104 heads are a bit special, they have 2 cables and 4 flash tubes capable of maximum output of 4800w/s or 9600w/s depending on which set of 4 flash tubes were installed. The MW3QVC (UV coated) or MW3QV tube was capable of 1200w/s per tube whereas the MW24QC (UV coated) or MW24Q were capable of 2400w/s per tube. The maximum w/s pumped through a 104 head was 4800 w/s but you could get shorter flash durations with the 2400w/s tubes. Those same tubes also fit in the 105 head which could dump 9600w/s through 4 cables.

I'll try them, but they are pretty old and couple of heads are dinged up. They work just fine, but with LED lighting now, doubt anyone would want them.
Have you considered e-bay, also what is your location?

Call a high school or a community college that teaches photography. They could find aspiring photographers who'd like them. That's how I learned. I'm sure others could too.
Good luck!

Excellent suggestion, yea the stuff may be old, but that wouldn't matter to a class of students who can put it to use.

Heck even if it doesn't work like new they wouldn't care it is way better then nothing.
