Is this a decent monitor?

I'm just starting out in photography and it suddenly occurred to me that the terrible, 1998 monitor I'm using, probably isn't going to help me when using editing software. I'm not in a position or skill level yet to drop $1000 on a new monitor, but after a little research, I was thinking this one looks decent (for the price) and would certainly be an upgrade from the old beast I'm using now.

At that price it's probably not very decent and is likely only able to display a 6-bit color depth. The most basic digital photos have an 8-bit color depth.

It's likely a Twisted Nematic (TN) type display, and not the more desirable for image editing In-Plane Switching (IPS) type display.

TN displays have narrow accurate viewing angles making it impossible to see an entire photos colors accurately on a computer display.

It also has a 16:9 aspect ratio which is ok for movies, but photographs are usually 3:2, 4:3, 5:4, or 7:5.

Thanks for the condescending remark. This isn't a matter of getting a review of the quality of the monitor itself. I already checked reviews regarding durability and quality of product.

This is me asking for someone with knowledge or experience with this monitor when it comes to photo editing. If I had experience with what all of the specs meant, I wouldn't need to ask for help on the forum.

Half of the monitors in this thread don't show up in the panel list at TFTCentral. Also that AOC i2353Ph is an identical panel as made by LG in LG's own monitor IPS231P-BN. May as well go with the creator in this case.
I'd look up any option on tftcentral.co.uk and check to ensure the panel is an IPS panel at the very least.

I am getting sick of these comments. Google works well for some things, and not for others. Getting reviews online is a very small portion of what you should be doing when buying a new monitor. Between paid product reviews popping up absolutely everywhere, idiots writing something they have no clue about ("omg picture is so fuzzy crap monitor", when using an analogue VGA cable on an otherwise great monitor), and the bias effects caused by psychological satisfaction or dissatisfaction between a product (i.e. you're very rarely to get a review from someone who's satisfied. Fanatical yes, major disappointed yes, but just plain satisfied no) you're effectively wasting your time by reading only reviews.

Now finding someone on a forum who actually has your product and talking to them is an experience that is unmatched. Remember that.

@Garbz- So you think the LG IPS231P-BN would be a decent monitor to start with for editing, considering I'm on a budget? I know that calibration is an important aspect that I'll need to look into as well. Again, at this point I'm using a terrible, very outdated monitor. Something like this LG would have to improve things for me, right? Or in that price range (i'm seeing that one for around $250) is there a better option?

Yes. While I have no experience with it the technology is well suited. IPS displays offer wide viewing angles which is important for consistency in the viewing. They are also a minimum for calibrating properly.

I have that one sitting the house, right now, waiting to be installed. Going to a dual monitor setup.

Dual displays offer the benefit of freeing up display space for the image being edited, by providing a 2nd display to move non-image screen items to.
