I recently bought an opus monolight kit. The optical triggers have problems. Only one will fire and the other one fires but its very sensitive. I switched back and forth between slave and master. I even picked one up and placed it over the sensor and yet nothing. They both fire when i press the test button though.

Nvm figured it out. I think it was too much ambient light. I took it into a much darker room and it worked. I didn't realize it had to be that dark.

The degree of darkness depends on the flashes position with respect to each other; the optical triggers have to be able to 'see' the other flash, so if one is pointing away, it can be a problem. Tip: use whichever flash doesn't have a modifier (or has the least light reduction due to modifiers) as the master.

Well I even picked one up bare bulb and put it right over the sensor of the other light. So I was worried it broke.

You triggered one strobe right next to the optical sensor of the other and it didn't trigger it?

Nope it didn't trigger it. It did trigger it when I was in a much darker room. So I'm thinking the sensor is just cheap. Its an opus kit.
