I like the last shot, expression is just ok, I hope you shot others here. The only thing I don't like is the post. Although it's something I don't like doing, I would take this post out, it should be easy and it would make for a much better image.

As far as the assistant goes, I would have done just as 12sndsgood suggested, although I would have gone one step further and told her take a hike, you don't need and you should never have to deal with an assistant like that while shooting.

As for the "assistant" she is a fellow professional photographer who came out to meet me and just paly around before a big charity event I am hosting next weekend. Before I even had my lens cap off she was taking over. I think I was so shocked I just froze. I would be directing the model and she would just talk right over me. I need a backbone

I had a second shooter come with me to a wedding (she had only shot one wedding in her life) and she completely tried taking over the posing and such while I was doing the formals. She kept saying "Everyone look at me" right as I was about to push the shutter. I had to pull her aside and ask her to stop so that I could get the formals done. She did stop, but then after the wedding was over, she got home that night and kept editing and posting photos to the bride's facebook so that everyone thought she was the photographer. I was none to pleased and have not worked with her since.

I think the client will be pleased; these are good shots, but they're NOT you're best work. Honestly, it looks to me like the "assisstant" had you rattled and it shows. I agree that a backbone (and a thicker skin) are essential, but at the same time, anyone that would act the way your assisstant did needs a good swift kick right, square in the sitmedownupon!

I think all four photos are very well done! The subject is really cute, too, btw. I think the signature, "The Portrait Sessions..." is, perhaps, too large and a bit pompous (script isn't my thing), but understand that you're probably using these photos for business promotion and such signatures are the norm.

Oh and, fire that assistant without a second thought.

Thanks all. I shot Saturday and made sure to have a sit down with my new assistant (different one from this shoot) and it was smooth sailing.

Imagemaker, I have a few from that location, and in the final edit the pole would be gone. I was very limited where I could shoot from and we were on the edge of the lake and the assistant wouldnt get wet...

If the assistant wasn't willing to get wet, THAT is exactly where I would have gone . . . without her. I agree with tirediron, they aren't your best set, but they are beautiful images and I think you made the senior look beautiful. I believe in the end that is what matters. We are playing with their self-esteem when we photograph them. When she gets these, she is going to see that she is gorgeous, and it's going to make her and her mom THRILLED! Great job!

Don't mean to be an ass, but I would've pulled her aside and set her in her place. If she wouldn't have cooperated...honestly I would tell her to leave and hit the road. Assistants are there to assist, not to take the lead...it's too bad we have to spell it out for them sometimes. Unbelievable...can't believe she's a photographer herself!

Btw these are deliverables, I think they're good enough.
