Jobs in Photography

Ok so I'm sort of wondering- what jobs are in the photography sector?
Who would employ them? And what for?
^ Just keeping things simple. I know there's purposes and all. I just don't have anything by name.

Most working photographers are self-employed.

Here in the USA, according to surveys conducted by professional photography associations, the majority of retail photographers earn an income below the poverty line, and have to support their photography business with money from other income sources, like a spouses full-time job.

There was a time when there were jobs for editorial photographers at newspapers, magazines, and other publications, but that started changing rapidly about 10 years ago.

Time magazine made somewhat of a splash by using a very inexpensive ($125) microstock (iStockphoto) photo on their April 27, 2009 cover. The photographer Robert Lam, got paid $31.50 for the use of his photo on the cover of a national magazine. He got that much because Time had to buy a more expensive than standard use license. The normal cost of the image (it's still available for licensing on iStockphoto's web site) is 10 iStockphoto credits or about $15.70 or so. weddings, newspapers, magazine. What for? I think it's obvious. In photojournalism pictures help tell the story. For wedding and events a professional would take a lot better pictures than the average person.

I think a lot of professional photographers combine different types of photography, weddings, news, magazines etc. to make a living. Why did you ask, want to be a professional photographer yourself?

Production houses, publishers, small businesses, larger companies, tv stations, political parties and candidates, local newspapers, organizations trying to build their image with the general public, web sites, all levels of government, resorts, presenters, etc. It is not that difficult to point out or create the need in any company/organization/business for a professional photographer.
