Does it lack contrast and is over exposed. Would metering have helped?

I kinda dig it. The one change I would have made is to move him to the left in the frame.

I like the austere frame, with very little in it. I like the "looking out of the frame" idea. Normally, we like people looking into the frame, rather than out, but I am buying this case here as a "Jon looking forward, out of the box" or whatever thing. I would just have pushed it farther, by moving him left, and leaving even more space behind him. You still want some separation between him and the little black frame on the left (ladder?), though.

It IS highly exposed, very stylized. I think it works, though.
