I've been working as an apprentice of a professional photographer. We went out to shoot various things so I could get a fuller grasp of balancing light with the professional camera we're using. I took this shot on a whim, basically asked if we could pull over so I could snap a few shots, and I absolutely fell in love with the result.

What do you love about it? Did you get any feedback from your mentor?

I'm not loving that the silhouette of the man is merging with the silhouette of the poles and bushes. His form is getting lost in the clutter. There is a lot of sky and wires. I generally find electrical wires a nuisance and avoid them, but I can see how you might like them as leading lines.

I'm not loving that the silhouette of the man is merging with the silhouette of the poles and bushes. His form is getting lost in the clutter. There is a lot of sky and wires. I generally find electrical wires a nuisance and avoid them, but I can see how you might like them as leading lines.

I liked the concept of it, I'm drawn to telephone poles and wires. I liked capturing them down a line and the position of the subject standing at the start of it looking outwards. The photographer thought the shot was alright from a concept standpoint but thought it could have been photographed better. He liked some of my other shots of it, yet I still prefer this one.

that's the sheet of all the images where I tried experimenting with camera settings. He liked the images where he was position on the other side of the pole.

None of them are really turning me on to the idea. I think you might be fighting with the lighting a bit as well. For the simplicity of the image, there is too much ugly landscape to make this an interesting location (imo). Keep shooting.

None of them are really turning me on to the idea. I think you might be fighting with the lighting a bit as well. For the simplicity of the image, there is too much ugly landscape to make this an interesting location (imo). Keep shooting.

Yeah I definitely was fighting with the lighting, that was the second shoot I did with my mentor's camera and I still haven't figured it out completely. I personally kind of like the ugly landscape but that's just me
