AA batteries?
if flashes are powered by AA batteries, why does my wife send me out for D batteries every other week?

I'd start to worry when she sends you out for some 2-stroke gas.

Its a nice picture, but, being able to meter for that background and add alittle manual mode flash would really make a big difference..

The bright sky in the background and to some extent, the white dress and the handbag are all showing a lot of light to your meter. That is where experience (or spot metering) will come into play.

You can "dial in" a little bit of +EV to expose better for the face or any shade area, at the expense of over-exposing the sky background. If your meter can spot-meter on her face, you should get a good result automatically. (For her face)

I think somebody has mentioned a reflector or a flash. In TTL mode, the camera will adjust for the flash and (hopefully) give you a good exposure. With a reflector, you still have to make sure the meter is metering the correct area (her face).

Welllll, as KmH and Tirediron loooove to tell us TPF'ers, electronic flash and natural light are the SAME THING. I mean, as every single one of us "knows for a fact", the Sun, this planet's greatest source of natural light, is indeed, powered by just four, tiny, AA batteries!!!!! And THAT is proof-positive that natural light and electronic flash are both IDENTICAL, and the light from one source, the Sun, is utterly the SAME, equal, la misma cosa, as the light from a made-in-China electronic flash unit!

Right? Right!
