Was having some major focusing issues with my d5100 body I just picked up used here, this was the only keeper out of about 100+ shots of her playing in a pile of leaves.

Let me know what you think of the crop, this was actually taken horizontal, but I wasn't happy with it ending up square when I hacked up about half the image to the left, so I got tight against her and kept cropping in more and more until I was happy.

The expression is precious and the lighting is nice and soft. I'm not sure about the crop, though. With her gazing off to viewer's left, the edge of the picture just seems too close to allow her gaze any room, if that makes sense. If possible, I think you could move the entire crop over a bit, maybe cut off the hair that stick out from the back of her head and include a bit more room for her gaze at the same time?

after opening the picture in an attempt to get a better crop, i realized just how complicated it was because of the original orientation of the photo. it's hard to get the right spacing around the whole photo and not have it square-looking. To be honest, i don't even entirely like the edit below, but i prefer this to the original crop. without more in the vertical direction, there's not a whole lot that can be done. that being said, the content of the image is fantastic. i love photographing my nieces and nephews. something about them makes them extremely photogenic. then we grow up :grumpy:

Yeah, I had something similar and then pushed it to make a more traditional portrait crop on it.

I don't like the portrait crop for some reason. For me, the original B&W landscape is better because the dark area to her left (where she's peering) can be imaginative, whereas the crop doesn't really do much.
