Why is it when I send in pics to the newspapers some of them put my name on the photo and others don't?
Just seems odd to me that they would'nt.

Depends on the policy of the newspaper regarding courtesy photographs and who processes the photo at the paper. If I get the photo i put "Courtesy photograph by XXXXX" in the cutline. If one of the copy desk part timers get the photo they may just put "Courtesy photograph."

It helps. I've hired two different photogs who were regular contributors.

The only credit worthwhile from a newspaper is one in cash.......... they charge for advertising, you charge for photography.

But, you're a photographer.

Most people never even look for a photo credit, let alone read one.

Getting your name out there requires spending money, time, planning, research, and a lot of effort on advertising, marketing, and promotion.

As Hooligan Dan has said, it's just how it works. Some papers do and some don't. A lot of the time they just forget. Sending photos into the local papers is a great way of building a "print" portfolio, you never have anything to lose by it.

I used to never notice, but for the past five years or so, I always check who the photographer is when I see a neat image. Usually, the photo credit is given, but not always.
