Photos OK to edit
With the holiday season coming up, my parents, grandparents, husband, in-laws, etc. have all been asking me what I want for Christmas/Hanukkah. So, I'm putting together a wishlist of sorts (and hoping that I'll be able to afford some of the things that I don't get from them with my tax return). Right now, the only gear I own is my D3000, and 2 kit lenses (18-55mm and 55-200mm). So far, I have a few things on my list, but could use some recommendations for other must-haves. =) I know that I want the 50 mm f/1.8 AF-S lens, an external flash (but don't know enough about flashes to know which would work best with my D3000), and a new camera bag (I have my eye on the Kelly Moore BHobo bag). Anything I should add to my list? And what's on your wishlist for the holiday season?

Looks like a thread for the

forum section.

I also want the 50mm 1.8 lens...

Pipe dreams are the 530EXII flash, lighting equipment (lights, softboxes), backdrops, and a better tripod.

One can dream, right?

Canon 1DX
Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM II
Canon 300mm f/2.8L IS USM
Sigma 50-500 f/4.5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM
1.4x Converter Canon
4 new Einsteins
580EX II (preferably 2)

None of which is really going to help you.
What do you want to photograph with your camera regularly?

Regularly?? I pretty much take pictures of this guy:

(I know, because I've been told it about this photo before, that it's oversaturated and my composition leaves something to be desired...but I'm very proud of his eyes in this photo. lol)

lol I'd like to (eventually, years down the road) possibly open a pet photography business. Short term goals would be getting good enough to volunteer my time taking pictures of adoptable animals for rescues and shelters. Right now, I just want to learn anything and everything. I'm nowhere near good enough to charge anybody anything right now. lol

Ditto on the 1DX... but I'll settle for the 5D Mark II (getting one with tax return money! :) )
50mm 1.2L (tax return money too)
70-200 2.8L -any of the versions would be great!
A couple alienbee 800s
Stuff to complete my home studio

Also, I included the "what you would want on your wishlist" thing just for fun. I didn't expect that what's on someone else' wishlist would be what I need to buy. Just curious what the must-haves are for others.

Only thing on my wishlist..............

I just got my Sony-A33 DSL(T) Monday so I pretty much need everything. :-P

Some of the things I wouldn't mind for xmas would be -

SAM 50mm f1.8

DT 50mm-200mm or some other zoom lens.

SunPak pistol grip tripod (played with one at BB today, pretty cool:blushing:)

ProLogic backpack camera bag

Oh and some kind of sling for my camera, not really digging the neck strap.

Is there a wal-mart near you? I know there is one in Williston but anyways.....my boyfriend made me a backdrop stand for 15.00 from stuff we found at wal-mart. I bought some white muslin from Jo-Ann fabrics and some thick black fabric. The fabric was all on sale so I spent around 35.00. Pretty sure you can buy dyes and stuff for the muslin. If you want to know what i used for the backdrop let me know and I'll send you a link of all the stuff. It helps to have a flash but I've used my backdrops without a flash. It sucks in the winter so I'm going to try and shoot inside a lot more - I hate the cold!!

Megan, yep I shop at Walmart regularly...I'll have to check into that when I'm a little less broke. I have a pretty decent backdrop stand that is nice and sturdy so all I need is the backdrops. But then again, I don't have much of a place to set it up except for my living room and yeah. I also have three light stands...just nothing to hold the lights or umbrellas (I have 6 umbrellas, too!).

I would love soft boxes for outdoor shooting. I do mostly outdoor photo shoots and would love to learn how to maximize my experience doing so. I don't really have any place for a studio. I would like the extra flash so I can do master/slave stuff.

My wishlist includes but not limited to: 18-105 Nikkor AF-S lens, (1) Alien Bee 800 with honeycomb set, CyberSync battery powered set w/ 2 receivers, a GOOD backdrop stand cuz mine sucks!, and a few GOOD simple muslin backdrops...Black, White, Tan.

With that being said, I DO have a Nikon D3100 and love it so I don't NEED a new body, but a D300 wouldn't be turned down :D lol. Between a AB 800 and my AB 400 already owned I would have more than enough light in my little room. My softbox is so big it barely gives me room to shoot! lol

Couple of Duff Einstein's or the equivalent (with modifiers)

I just got me Sigma 50mm 1.4. Would love to get a Canon 1DX.

Whenever the hell is that new D800 will come out? I want to buy it!
