The lens seems unable to achieve very shallow DOF, even wide open. I guess that's either a plus or a negative depending on your wants and needs. Looks free of CA in these shots at f1.8, unless you corrected it in post.

Wrong, I own the 35mm 1.8 and I can achieve a VERY shallow dof.

I disagree. Just because he's off to the right it wouldn't look alright if he were staring into the camera.

Just my opinion though.

well... how much bokeh you get depends on how close you are to your subject as well as how far the subject is from the background, aperture too...
