it is now child's play to "lift" and recover shadow areas without leaving halos, while keeping the highlights natural looking--without the need to create masks for those dark areas!

Do you have the Ricoh GR8 with the 16-megapixel APS-C sensor...you know the camera with the Sony Exmor sensor? And the Sony BIONZ image processor in it?

Yes it is a 4-5 y.o. APS-C Sony sensor. Some say it is similar to D5100/D7000.

Here's an .PDF document that Sony itself has made available, showing the different, two-stage on-chip noise reduction process that their EXMOR line of sensors has, and which other CMOS sensors do not use.Request Rejected (not sure why the Sony server link appears as "request Rejected" funny!)

Take a look at the Sony paper, and look at Figure 2, then go back to Fred Miranda's "controlled tests" that Braineack referred to earlier in post #15.
