Just testing my new lens--

yup... seems like you were too close for the lens to focus.

did you read the manual yet? 'cause if you did then it should tell you how to cancel the flash... always read the manual first if you don't know how to use a device!

The little book that it came with does not help me at all. I plan on taking this camera to the Rose Parade on the 1st- I hope to take a better picture than the one I posted here.
That was one bad picture.

The manual should tell you everything you need to known about setting it up, apart from being creative

Dominantly, when I look at my firefox exif data, why doesn't it look as clean as the ones you just posted then?

# Camera Make = Canon
# Camera Model = Canon EOS 7D
# Picture Orientation = normal (1)
# ? (0x0000) = 0x00,0x00,0x08,0xca
# Y-Resolution = 72/1 ===> 72
# X/Y-Resolution Unit = inch (2)
# Last Modified Date/Time = 2009:12:25 16:28:22
# Artist =
# Y/Cb/Cr Positioning (Subsampling) = co-sited / datum point (2)
# Copyright Owner =

That's what mine looks like. Ahaha.

Chrome FTW.

Anyway to make it look neat and tidy in Firefox?
Chrome fails.

I use firefox and downloaded a plug in to snag the meta data.
It even has a "copy" button to make it nice and neat.

It was a very poor subject to use auto focus on. Auto focus has limitations. Nikon camera users manual's have a section that describes some of the things that hinder the auto focus function.

Auto focus does not perform well when:
  • There is little or no contrast between the subject and the background.
  • The focus point contains areas of sharply contrasting brightness.
  • The focus point contains objects at different distances from the camera.
  • Background objects appear larger than the subject.
  • The subject is dominated by regular geometric patterns.
  • the subject contains many fine details.
Your image contains several of these situations that usually cause auto focus to under perform.
