So I gave the tube a twist, as you do with kaleidoscopes, and this is what I saw:

Actually, if you look closely enough, the joins are not quite perfectly knit together. I thought about going back and trying to get things just exactly right; but then I thought about how the kaleidoscopes I had as a child and how the ones my daughter had were always a little jaunty and off anyway, and decided to let it be. Fun is the main thing!
