Has anyone made a recent purchase from KEH? The reason I ask is because I found something on that site that I would like to buy which is rated as “Excellent“. I did some research about what their ratings mean and I came across a two year old thread on Reddit where one post informs that a few years ago the ratings offered by that site took a downturn. A later post states that the writer purchased an item rated as “Excellent” and when it arrived it was in (expletive) condition. I was enthusiastic about the purchase, but after I read that, I’m not so sure. Any thoughts?

Some kvetch about post-2023 rating objectivity. Most don't. Agree that stale Reddit gripes aren't always veracious and often amount to imaginary beefs. You want it? Buy it. Return it if it's short of expectations. Risk is always with us...

Thanks, I’m just doing some due diligence. This may actually help others out. I found a digital review platform called Trustpilot with the following summary regarding KEH. While it is overwhelmingly positive, there is a mention of some well worn items that were reportedly overrated by KEH. As always, caveat emptor.

Don't let a few negative comments put you off, especially in this AI format. I lived nearby KEH some years ago; have been in the store and had several conversations over the years with various staff. They are, in my experience, trustworthy and professional.

If you see a particular item, just give them a direct phone call and chat with them about it. If you're satisfied, make the purchase. Ask specific questions about returning your item if it falls short. My experiences there have always been good. I've never returned a thing.

And please, don't let the snarky reply up there run you off. There's nothing wrong with due diligence!

I've purchased from them many times over the last few years; the last time being a macro lens a few months ago. The items have always been exactly as decribed or better than their ratings led me to believe.
I'd buy from them again in a heartbeat.

Couple months late, but I would trust KEH. I have been buying and some selling with them for over 20 years. I have only had 1 issue with an AF-s lens that was noisy. They sent a return label, and shipped me a different lens. Zero hassle what so ever.

+1 KEH ratings are accurate. I purchase from them often. I have always found their ratings trustworthy. If anything, the item may be better than the rating.

I second that. I have purchased two Pentax lenses from them, and both were better than I expected.
