I'd appreciate thoughts on this shot. If anyone is interested I'll be happy to post my set-up also.

Thanks!

I'm interested in your set up. Also, how did you get the kiwi to stand up? I love how the reflection is darker.

Here is a picture of the set-up I used, taken with my iPhone:

Before I did this shot, I was actually wondering how to get the slice of kiwi to stand up also. What I discovered was that even though it was only about 1/8" thick, it will stand up on it's own.

I purchased a 24" X 24" piece of clear plexiglass and painted one side black. I placed the painted side on the bottom. I also tried white, but the black gives a much better reflection. The slice of kiwi was placed on the unpainted side. An off camera flash was placed behind the kiwi. I used radio control to fire the flash. I had to experiment with the proper placement for the flash.

I used a spray bottle to mist water onto the kiwi and the plexiglass.

You mentioned the reflection. Getting that to the degree I wanted was trial and error. Moving flash higher and lower. Adjusting shutter speed.

Thanks for your comments!

Wow neat, I had been waiting to see your set up but this thread was lost among all the new one's. It is really educational, especially for us newbies. Being able to see someone's set up is so much easier to understand than hearing it. Do you also use a flash on your camera?

for some reason I was expecting a bird or a new zealander lol

No, I did not use the on camera flash at all.

Glad you enjoyed the shot, as well as the set-up.
