Lanscape Photography

Thanks for the pointers guys, ^-^
great advice.

Also @ SirAshley, I wish I could manage something like that..Hyperfocal, sounds scary haha.
But I use a Canon Powershot S5 IS,
max aperture is 8.0, so I can't really do too much =/

Quit your bitchin'. Get out there and take shot after shot after shot. Until you learn how to accommodate your camera's capabilities, you've got nothing to compain about. The three shots I posted earlier were taken from the swamp that the beavers have created. It used to be just a creek. I was at the shoreline at 5:00AM, wading out in the cold water before light to get that sunrise....or fighting swarms of mosquitos at dusk to get that sunset..... or ....you name it. I don't do as much landscape now, but it is all about timing and lighting. You can't just go out there and go CLICK, I'm done.

Tell you what....... send me your camera for a week. I'll pay all shipping expenses and guarantee safe return. If I can't get a decent landscape shot in that time, then I'll fly to Nebraska and plant one squarely your ass.

haha, I was merely telling SirAshley that the "Hyperfocal" wouldn't apply to my camera as much as one with the larger aperture. I'm sure I can get a decent landscape shot with what I've got =p

Hyper focal distance applies at all apertures.

Edited to admit my misinformation. Move along. Nothing to see here.

I liked the picture with more sky than water. It worked for me. Perhaps some tweaking, but better than the originals.

^I agree. All the drama is in the sky.

More water is really only good if you're using a shoreline to lead the eye somewhere, using the reflection, the water IS the subject, or (maybe) if the subject is in the water...

see for this shot i had to create something interesting to make up for just a boring horizon line in the water.

and see here, the Boat is somewhat of a subject, it takes the focus away from, again, just a boring horizon line

Also, C&C on this please?

Parts of the sky were blown-out (pure white, 255 in all 3 color channels) and there was no recoverable detail, so I content-aware filled those areas after doing some editing in ACR and Photoshop:
