Last few from the Eastern Sierras

For the most part its just camera settings and how high of an ISO your body can handle.

These were shot at f/2.8 - f/3.5, 25 sec, ISO 3200. Usually bring a high powered flashlight to focus on something in the foreground, or if nothing you can focus on a light/star in the distance.

In the last 2 photos, notice the star trails in the water but not in the sky.

What part of the eastern Sierra's? I used to spend time in and around Golden Trout camp a bit south of the Cottonwood lakes, Mt. Langley, and New Army pass.

Around the Mammoth lakes area. The first night shot was around Alkali lake up Benton Crossing Rd. The second not to far at Convict Lake off the 395.

Not sure. I'll take the exact same shot 2 times in a row. 1 will have pretty defined stars in the water one wont. The Alkali lake shot was really windy so I suspect that has a lot to do with it as it was a single shot.

The last star shot was a composite. I used a different exposure for the foreground to help bring out some of the light on the foreground/mountains so that one can be explained by a longer exposure for the foreground.
